Increasing Revenue by 2,400% in 3 Weeks – A Google Shopping Case Study

While many businesses are struggling now with the downturn in walk-through traffic to their physical businesses, due to social distancing, some have adapted and are thriving.

It can be said that there are some serious advantages to working with a Google Ads Professional company that are experts in eCommerce, which this case study fully demonstrates.

Having an eCommerce platform and connecting it with Google Shopping is an incredible powerful tool if it is done right. It all comes down to the quality of your shopping feed and making sure that you follow Google guidelines to the letter. These guidelines are designed to provide the consumer with the best possible online shopping experience. Follow these guidelines and you WILL be rewarded in spades.

What is Google Shopping?

Formerly known as Product Listing Ads, Google Shopping is a service provided by Google. It allows customers to search for, compare, and purchase products online. These products are displayed when a customer uses Google to search for a product. They can appear in the main search engine results page or under the shopping tab.

If the customer selects the shopping tab, they will see page which looks like this:

Recently, we have seen an explosion in sales for our clients that are using Google Shopping. In fact, while on a call with a client recently, they could not believe the massive spike in traffic websites and sales.

This client is so busy fulfilling orders that they had to relocate his in-store staff to help manage the flow of online orders, making it a great win-win for everyone involved.

While it may be true that the current situation will end and eventually restrictions will be lifted, business and consumer shopping habits have changed forever. The improvements in technology, shipping and delivery systems have improved significantly over the years, resulting in a far more streamlined and functional online shopping experience.

For those businesses that have not yet set up eCommerce and Google Shopping or who may be experiencing issues with it, here is a short case study proving that it’s well worth spending the time and money to do it.

Google Shopping Case Study

This case study shows the impact that social distancing has had on one of our client’s businesses and the windfall generated from making sure they followed the best Google Shopping and eCommerce practices. It also shows how the cost of Google Ads has dropped due to lower competition as a result of businesses deciding to reduce their advertising spends. Now is, without doubt, the best time to be advertising to not just survive, but thrive.

For more details on why this is so, please read our previous blog post about the benefits of advertising in a down market here: The Multi Dollar Boom of Digital Business Resulting From Covid19

The following graphs from one of our clients shows a comparison in results between just before the virus lock downs on Mar 12, 2020 – Mar 31, 2020 and roughly after the lock downs took effect Apr 1, 2020 – Apr 20, 2020. The results are truly mind blowing. See the below breakdown for more details.

One of the most important stats in any marketing strategy is without a doubt the return on advertising spend or ROAS. In the graph above we see that our client was already doing very well, with a ROAS of 527% before the lockdown. From 527%, or a little over $5 in sales revenue for every $1 spent on ads, it has skyrocketed to $24 for every $1 spent. That is a very impressive increase of 356%.

Our client’s revenue increased from $9K to almost $85K in an extremely short period of time. So that’s an 800% increase in revenue in just 3 weeks!

With fewer competitors in the marketplace, the cost per click has fallen by a huge 56%, making our client’s margin all the better and his profits much larger.

Digital advertising, Google Ads, Google Shopping, and eCommerce were already on track to be a significant contributor to retailers’ marketing strategies and now they have become essential. The benefits of online business are here to stay. Having the support of a professional advertising company and Google Partner, that understands how to get the most out of your online presence could be the turning point needed for many businesses out there.
